Basra Engineering technical college convened its sixteenth council session for the 2024–2025 academic year, chaired by Professor Dr. Adnan Abdullah Ateeq, President of the Southern Technical University, and attended by Assistant Professor Dr. Nawras Jameel Jasem, Dean of the College, along with council members.
The session hosted representatives of the Industrial Advisory Board and employers, including:
•Mr. Marfaa Kazem Al-Asadi, Deputy Managing Director, Basra Gas Company
•Mr. Salman Hidar, Director of Production Authority and Deputy General Manager, South Refineries Company
•Mr. Rafid Nasser, Director of Contracts and Materials, Basra Gas Company
The session also included Dr. Maher Talib, Director of the Continuing Education Center.
Professor Dr. Adnan Abdullah Ateeq opened the session by emphasizing the importance of strengthening collaboration between educational institutions and the industrial sector. He highlighted the value of conducting regular labor market surveys to enhance educational outcomes, develop curricula aligned with the requirements of oil, gas, and other engineering industries, keep pace with technological advancements, and improve learning outcomes at the College.
Representatives from the industrial companies – Basra Gas Company and South Refineries – expressed their readiness to enhance collaboration with the College through curriculum development proposals, implementation of training programs, support for applied research aligned with modern technologies, and provision of technical consultancy services.
In turn, the Dean of the College stressed the importance of activating the role of the Industrial Advisory Board and strengthening partnerships with employers. He emphasized engaging industry experts in practical aspects, organizing scientific visits, and monitoring graduation projects to enhance students’ skills and prepare them for the labor market. He further affirmed that this collaboration contributes to the development of a modern educational system, the graduation of qualified professionals, increased employment rates, and sustainable communication between educational institutions and the industrial sector.
The session concluded with a discussion of the agenda items related to administrative matters and student affairs
