Basra Engineering Technical College organized a workshop focused on health awareness concerning monkeypox, presented by medical trainer Mr. Mohammed Abdullah Mohsen. The workshop was attended by the Dean of the College, Assistant Professor Dr. Layla balasem hashem, along with the esteemed faculty members and students.
Key Findings of the Workshop:
• Nature of the Disease:
The workshop concluded that monkeypox is a contagious viral disease that is typically transmitted through direct contact with the bodily fluids of an infected individual or contaminated objects. Despite its nomenclature, monkeys are not the sole reservoir for this virus, as it can also be transmitted among humans.
• Symptoms:
The facilitator elucidated that the symptoms of the disease include:
• Fever
• Headache
• Myalgia (muscle aches)
• Lymphadenopathy (swollen lymph nodes)
• General fatigue
Following a few days, a distinctive rash emerges, progressing through several stages, beginning with erythematous macules (red spots) and ultimately forming crusts.
• Efforts to Combat the Disease:
The discourse emphasized the collaborative efforts necessary to combat monkeypox, which primarily concentrate on:
• Vaccination: Numerous countries are actively engaged in the development of effective vaccines against monkeypox.
• Health Isolation: The isolation of confirmed cases is critical in preventing the transmission of the disease.
• Public Awareness: Elevating awareness is essential in combating this disease by encouraging individuals to adhere to preventive measures.
