Sustainability Week activities were launched at Engineering Technical College of Basra, under the supervision of the Dean of the College, Dr. Laila Balasim Hashem. The Department of Electrical Engineering Technologies hosted the course entitled The Role of Solar Energy in Sustainable Development, presented by the Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs and Graduate Studies, Dr. Dhia Kamel Shri, in the presence of the teaching staff and students of the college.

The course aims to shed light on the use of solar energy in sustainable development, as the first part of the course touched on the solar radiation map and the types of solar energy systems (off-grid system, on-grid system, and hybrid-grid system).

The types of solar panels, charging regulators, inverters for the solar system, and choosing the direction of the solar panels were also discussed.
While the second part of the course discussed the size of batteries used in the solar system and methods of connecting solar panels.

The course concluded that the use of solar energy is very important in energy sustainability and maintaining a clean, sustainable environment as it does not cause global warming and health sustainability as it does not cause diseases to living organisms.
